Abstract

Latar Belakang: Perawatan ortodontik bertujuan memperbaiki maloklusi gigi menggunakan alat ortodontik cekat (fixed) maupun lepasan (removable). Kawat adalah komponen yang penting dalam perawatan ortodontik dimana stainless steel dan nikel titanium merupakan yang paling sering digunakan. Kawat ortodontik dapat mengalami korosi ketika berada di lingkungan pH asam. Minuman kopi arabika memiliki pH 4,8 dimana kandungan asamnya termasuk asam lemah yang akan mempengaruhi korosi dan menyebabkan peningkatan friksi yang dapat menghambat efektivitas perawatan ortodontik. Tujuan: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh minuman kopi arabika terhadap friksi kawat stainless steel dan nikel-titanium. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental laboratoris dengan desain post-test only control group. Penelitian ini melibatkan 12 sampel kawat stainless steel dan 12 sampel kawat nikel-titanium dengan diameter 0,018 cm dan panjang 10 cm. Sampel dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok kontrol yang direndam dalam saliva buatan dan 4 kelompok uji yang direndam dalam kopi arabika dengan waktu perendaman 7,5 jam dan 10 jam dan masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari tiga sampel kawat. Friksi kawat diukur dengan menggunakan alat Universal Testing Machine. Analisis statistik menggunakan independent t test. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan friksi kawat yang direndam dalam kopi arabika lebih tinggi dibandingkan saliva buatan dengan pengaruh yang tidak signifikan. Kesimpulan: kopi arabika tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap friksi kawat stainless steel dan nikel titanium. Background: Orthodontic treatment aims to correct dental malocclusion using fixed or removable orthodontic appliances. Wire is an important component in orthodontic treatment, with stainless steel and nickel-titanium being the most commonly used materials. Orthodontic wire can cause corrosion when exposed to acidic pH environments. Arabica coffee has a pH of 4.8, which includes weak acids that can affect corrosion and cause an increase in friction, potentially decrease the effectiveness of orthodontic treatment. Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of Arabica coffee on the friction of stainless steel and nickel-titanium wires. Methods: This study is a laboratory experimental research with a post-test only control group design. It involves 12 samples of stainless steel wire and 12 samples of nickel-titanium wire with a diameter of 0.018 cm and a length of 10 cm. The samples are divided into 4 control groups soaked in artificial saliva and 4 test groups soaked in Arabica coffee for immersion periods of 7.5 hours and 10 hours. Each group consists of three wire samples. Wire friction is measured using a Universal Testing Machine. Statistical analysis is performed using independent t-tests. Results: The study results show that wire friction is higher when immersed in Arabica coffee compared to artificial saliva, but this difference is not statistically significant. Conclusion: Arabica coffee did not have a significant effect on the friction of stainless steel and nickel-titanium wires.
