Abstract

This study aims to find out the role of local communities in efforts to protect and manage customary forests in Air Abik Hamlet, Gunung Muda Village, Belinyu District, Bangka Regency. There were twelve informants in this study consisting of six main informants and six supporting informants who were determined using purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques. This research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques used in this study include documentation techniques, interview techniques, and observation techniques. Tests for the validity of the data used in this study include credibility tests, transferability tests, dependability tests, and confirmability tests. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Based on the data analysis conducted, it is known that the role of the local community in Air Abik in efforts to protect and manage customary forests has been well elaborated and of course provides progress for the preservation of the customary forests themselves. The manifestation of the protection and management of customary forests by the community refers to four indicators of protection and management and the injection of traditional knowledge and local wisdom which are instruments for the community to carry out the protection and management of customary forests in Air Abik Hamlet.
