Abstract
Purple sweet potato leaves has activities as a medicine for boils, antipyretic, burns, hepatoprotectors, antioxidants and it is known that the ethyl acetate fraction of purple sweet potato leaves has antihyperlipidemic activity. The use of purple sweet potato leaves as a natural medicine must be supported by toxicity studies to ensure the safety of its use. The purpose of this study was to determine the LD50 value, the effect on biochemical, macroscopic and histopathological parameters of the liver, kidneys and heart. Acute toxicity test was carried out using the fixed dose procedure method. Sighting test with a dose of 2000 mg/kgBW did not cause toxic symptoms or death, so the dose of 2000 mg/kgBW was determined as the initial dose for the main test. The test animals were divided into two groups, namely the normal group and the dose of 2000 mg/kgBW. The results of the observations showed that there were no deaths or toxic symptoms in all treatment groups. During the 14 days of observation, there was no significant change in rat weight in both test groups (p>0.05). The average results of the biochemical parameters of the normal group were SGOT 173.94±4.327 U/L, SGPT 65.78±15.554 U/L, creatinine 0.65±0.015 mg/dl and urea 33.42±3.061 mg/dl. While the 2000 mg/kgBW group, SGOT 146.28±31.069 U/L, SGPT 78.57±24.433 U/L, creatinine 0.63±0.035 mg/dL and urea 39.04±1.384 mg/dl. The ethyl acetate fraction of purple sweet potato leaves at a dose of 2000 mg/kgBW had no effect on the macroscopic organs of the liver, kidneys and heart (p>0.05), and did not show any damage to the histopathology of the liver and heart, but showed slight damage to the histopathology of the kidneys.
