Abstract
This study aims to determine the anatomical structure of the roots, stems, midribs, and leaves of kecombrang (Etlingera elatior (Jack) R.M.Sm.). This research was conducted using descriptive methods. Anatomical observations of roots, stems, midribs, and leaves were performed by making cross-sections using the paraffin method and were observed using a 100x and 400x magnification binocular microscope. The observed parameters include (i) the structural tissue of root organs, stems, midribs, and leaves, (ii) cell shape, (iii) cell size and (iv) cell layer number. Research results show that the tissues that compose the roots are the epidermis, cortex, endodermis, pith, parenchyma, xylem, and floem. The stem consists of tissues a epidermis, parenchyma, xylem, and floem. The midribs consist of tissues a epidermis, parenchyma, xylem, and floem. Leaves consist of tissues a epidermis, xylem, floem, parenchyma palisade, and spongy parenchyma. Each type of tissue that compose roots, stems, empulur, and leaves has a different shape. The average cell size of each type of plant tissue varies. The number of layers of cells in some tissues composing the four plant organs is the same: 1-layer epidermis, 3-6 layer parenchyma, and 1-layer vascular bundle. The results of this study can be used as a source of learning and as a source of information and basic data in the study of plant anatomical structures.
