Abstract
Sungsang waters, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province has a wealth of marine biota catches, particularly the mudskipper fish. The mudskipper which thrives in mangrove areas, plays a vital role in maintaining ecosystem balance. Understanding and protecting the ecology of mudskippers is essential for the sustainability of Sungsang waters. This research was conducted in February 2023 within Sungsang waters, using fishing gear and shrimp bait to collect mudskipper samples. Length, width, and weight were measured using appropriate instruments, and the relationship between length and weight was determined using the formula W = a x Lb. The samples were then identified and analyzed in a marine bioecology laboratory, using the Index of Preponderance (IP) to determine the percentage of dominant food items in the stomach and intestines. The water quality measurements indicate that the temperature ranging from 26-30°C and pH levels of 7.44-7.51 meet the standards set for marine water. The salinity level of 5-6 ppt is low during ebb tide and high during flood tide. The dissolved oxygen content of 8.13-8.30 mg/L is sufficient in all stations. The study revealed that mudskippers have a diverse diet, including biola crabs, shrimp, plankton such as Nitzchia sp and Pleurosigma sp, crab larvae, Daphnia pulex, and other fish. Biola crabs contributed the most to their diet, with an average of 52.25%. The relationship length and weight of mudskippers exhibited both negative and positive allometric growth patterns.
