Abstract

Mothers' lack of knowledge about choking in toddlers has an impact on inappropriate behavior when handling choking so that it can endanger the child. Efforts that can be made to increase mother's knowledge about handling choking in children is to provide health education. In this study, health education was provided using audiovisual media because this media made it easier for respondents to absorb the information provided through health education. This is because audiovisual media facilitates abstract concepts, simplifies complex theories, and enhances learning absorption/retention. This study aims to determine the effect of health education with audiovisual media on mothers' knowledge in handling choking in children. This research is a pre-experimental study with a one group pretest-posttest design. The number of samples in this study were 35 respondents who were selected by means of non-probability sampling through purposive sampling technique. The instrument in this study used a questionnaire. Statistical analysis in this study used the paired sample t test. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the p value was 0.000 (p   0,05) which indicated that audiovisual media had a significant effect on increasing mother's knowledge in handling choking in children. Audiovisual media is very effective for increasing mothers' knowledge in handling choking in children so that this media can be used as a medium for health education.
