Abstract
The rapidpopulation growth in line with the rate of growth in the number of vehicles and vehicle ownership in Palembang, resulting in the occurrence of congestion in the roadways. Demand increasing in an area in Sako district, not offset by supply increasing. One of some ways to overcome this problem is Transpor t Demand Management (TDM), the strategy in arranging transport with a focus on optimizing the existing transportation modes, minimizing the using of Single Occupancy Vehicle (SOV) transportation modes and encourage the using ofHigh Occupancy Vehicle transportation modes (HOV). Carpooling is a circumstance when a person committed to share private vehicles with others in a voyage in a given time period and derived from their origin adjacent and having destinations and the same schedule (Hall, 1997 and Kaufman, 2002)^_The analysis conducted in this study is the analysis of the characteristics of the trip with descriptive methods, analysis of origin-destination trip matrix and route planning analysis carpooling system. In addition, prior to analysis done first conducted a survey of origin and destination survey (home interview), traffic count surveys, and spot speed survey to obtain more accurate data from this study. From the research that has been conducted, the population who travel frequently are males aged between 25-40 years who existed as private sector employees and self-employed, and the most targeted districts are districts of Ilir Barat I, Bir Timur II, and Bir Timur I, as well as the magnitude of potential carpooling users in the Sako district in Palembang as much as 29.799 people with the potential for as many as 4.257 vehicles carpooling mode.
