Abstract

The occurrence of HIV/AIDS among adolescents is a serious issue that must be addressed to prevent its continuous spread. Various adolescent behaviors that are at risk of HIV/AIDS are referred to as key populations including men who have sex with men (MSM), female sex workers (FSW), waria (transgender), and injecting drug users (IDUs). Therefore, this research aims to determine the prevention of HIV/AIDS transmission carried out by key population adolescents. The research design used is descriptive, data were obtained through in-depth interviews and observation of 20 informants: 6 HIV/AIDS adolescents, 7 adolescents at risk of HIV/AIDS, and 7 key informant experts. Data validation uses triangulation of sources, methods and data. Data analysis used thematic analysis method, presented using flowcharts, intersections and tables accompanied by descriptions. The variables studied include individual level (knowledge, preparatory behaviour, fear of stigma, perceived social norm, self-efficacy, motivation), interpersonal/network level (social support and trust, communication level), and institutional/health system level (competent and supportive providers, confidentiality/privacy). The results of the study showed that adolescents have good self-ability to prevent HIV/AIDS transmission. This is due to the role of NGOs in providing reinforcement as an interpersonal factor. As well as service providers in caring for PDP and VCT patients. However, adolescents continue to carry out risky activities as a key population and tend to cover up their HIV status because it is still a taboo issue in society so that there is still a chance for transmission to occur and hinder prevention efforts. Therefore efforts that should be made are to normalize HIV screening to increase coverage and continue to increase youth understanding and awareness of risky behavior for HIV/AIDS transmission.
