Abstract
The implementation of hand washing technique is often neglected. This habit can lead to high child morbidity due to environmental-based diseases that affect many school-age children. Health education with science experiments provide as learning strategies to improve handwashing techniques. This study aims to determine the effect of health education through science experiments on handwashing skills with soap in elementary school students. This type of research is a quasy experimental quantitative research with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample in this study were 18 people-per-group using probability sampling method with stratified random sampling technique. The statistical test used was the paired sample t-test which showed a significant difference in students' skills between before and after being given health education through science experiments with a p-value of 0.000 (< (0.05). The results of the independent t-test in both groups showed p value 0.040 (p<0.05), which means that there is a significant difference between health education through science experiments and videos on handwashing skills with soap in elementary school students. Science experiments can be used as a way to help elementary school children to improve their handwashing skills with soap.
