Abstract

This study aims to obtain the right planting distance for the growth and yield of soybean plants (Glycine max L.) in rubber plant polyculture. This research was conducted at the Rubber Research Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture (3°14'01'S 104°38’11°E), Sriwijaya University, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra from December 2022 to March 2023. The research was conducted using a Randomized Block Design (RBD). The factors were plant spacing consisting of 5 levels with 4 replications variety of soybean was Anjasmoro. Treatments consisting of 40 cm x 20 cm (P1), 40 cm x 30 cm (P2), 40 cm x 40 cm (P3), 40 cm x 50 cm (P4), 40 cm x 60 cm (P5). Observations were analyzed using variance analysis and continued with 5% LVD test. The parameters observed were light intensity, soil pH, soybean plant height, soybean plant diameter, number of main branches, number of pods per plot, number of pods, fresh weight, fresh weight of pods, dry weight of pods, weight of 100 seeds, latex weight, and stem circumference of rubber plants. Measurement of sunlight intensity in the field without shade (P0) was about 322 K.lux, for the land under shade about 218 K.lux, and the intensity of sunlight under the shade of rubber plants was about 67%. soil pH in the research area ranged only 4.69. The results showed that the soybean planting distance of 40 cm x 30 cm (P2) gave the best results on the growth of the number of main branches, the number of pods per plot, the number of pods, the fresh weight of the stalk and the weight of 100 seeds. The highest number of pods per plot was obtained at a spacing of 40 cm x 30 cm (P2) with an average of 25.7 g, the lowest number of pods per plot was obtained at a spacing of 40 cm x 60 cm (P5) with an average of 9.9 g. Soybean plants of Anjasmoro variety planted under the shade of rubber plants respond to generative growth that is not good and not optimal. Soybean plants planted in polyculture in rubber plants have a very significant effect on latex weight but no significant effect on rubber plant stem circumference.
