Abstract

Catfish is one of the fish that has economic value and is in demand by the community, thus demanding that cultivators carry out an intensive cultivation system in order to obtain optimal production results. Intensive cultivation which is carried out with high stocking densities often causes death problems that affect the amount of production. One effort that can be done to increase growth and reduce mortality is by providing supplements in the feed. One of the ingredients that can be used as a supplement in feed is earthworm meal. Earthworms have a crude protein content of 63.06% and the amino acid content in earthworm meal is relatively higher than fish meal. Earthworms contain essential amino acids such as arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, and valine. Earthworms also contain the active substance Lumbricin I which is antimicrobial and immunostimulant. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum dose of using earthworm meal as a supplement for the growth and survival of catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus). This study used a completely randomized design with five treatments and three replications. The treatment given was commercial feed plus earthworm meal 0% (P0), use of earthworm meal 2% (P1), use of earthworm meal 4% (P2), use of earthworm meal 6% (P3) and use of earthworm meal 8% (P4). The results showed that P4 was the best treatment with an absolute weight growth of 2.38 g, absolute length growth of 1.78 cm, feed efficiency of 35.51%, protein efficiency ratio of 0.98, total erythrocytes of 2.65 x 106 cells mm-3, hematocrit level of 38.1%, hemoglobin level of 10.00 g dL-1 and survival rate of 98%. During the study, water quality parameters of temperature ranged from 26.0-29.6°C, pH 6.5-7.3, dissolved oxygen 4.46-5.58 mg L-1 and ammonia ranged from 0.014-0.035 mg L-1.
