Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran shyness terhadap academic help seeking pada mahasiswa tahun pertama. Terdapat 4 hipotesis pada penelitian ini, yaitu terdapat peran shyness terhadap: (1) instrumental help seeking; (2) executive help seeking; (3) avoidance covert help seeking, dan (4) perceived benefits of help seeking pada mahasiswa tahun pertama. Responden dalam penelitian ini adalah 178 mahasiswa tahun pertama di Indonesia. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah sampling purposive. Variabel shyness diukur dengan menggunakan skala shyness yang dirancang sendiri oleh peneliti mengacu pada aspek shyness dari Henderson dan Zimbardo (1998). Untuk mengukur variabel academic help seeking menggunakan skala academic help seeking yang dirancang sendiri oleh peneliti mengacu pada dimensi academic help seeking dari Pajares, Cheong, dan Oberman (2004). Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik analisis regresi sederhana. Hasil analisis regresi sederhana menunjukkan bahwa seluruh variabel menghasilkan nilai signifikansi p<0,05, dengan nilai r: (1) instrumental help seeking (r = 0,145); (2) executive help seeking (r = 0,028); (3) avoidance covert help seeking (r = 0,031); (4) perceived benefits of help seeking (r = 0,291). Dengan demikian seluruh hipotesis yang diajukan dalam penelitian ini dapat diterima.
