Abstract

Excessive use of NPK fertilizer over a very long period of time will damage soil fertility. The use of NPK fertilizer can be combined with organic soil repair such as rice husk biochar and compost. This study aims to determine the ability of rice husk biochar and compost to reduce the use of NPK fertilizer and the best combination to increase N-total, C-organic soil, fresh weight and leaf area of plants. This research was carried out at the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir from May to August 2022. Analysis was carried out at the Chemistry, Biology and Soil Fertility Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study used a completely randomized factorial design with 4 treatments of organic soil repair factors and 3 treatments of NPK fertilizer factors and 4 repetitions. The treatment in this study was organic soil repair factors: control, rice husk charcoal 15 tons ha-1, rice husk charcoal 15 tons ha-1 + compost 10 tons ha-1, and rice husk charcoal 15 tons ha-1 + compost 30 tons ha-1 and NPK fertilizer factors: control, 50% recommendation (86,02 kg N ha-1, 55,98 kg P2O5 ha-1, and 67,2 kg K2O ha-1), and 100% recommendation (174,04 kg N ha-1, 111,96 kg P2O5 ha-1 and 134,4 kg K2O ha-1). The best result was the combination of rice husk biochar 15 tons ha-1 + compost 30 tons ha-1 and 100% recommendation (174,04 kg N ha-1, 111,96 kg P2O5 ha-1, and 134,4 kg K2O ha-1) for N-total, C-organic soil, fresh weight and leaf area of plants and the function of rice husk biochar and compost is to help absorb nutrients both available and added and to hold nutrients from being easily lost due to washing.
