Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of shallot peel extract on the growth of pepper cuttings (Piper nigrum L.). This study used an experimental method with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which consist of six treatments and four replication. The treatments consisted of shallot peel solution 0% (P0), 60% (P1), 70% (P2), 75% (P3), 85% (P4), and synthetic Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) (P5). Parameters observed were the percentage of live cuttings, time of shoot emergence, number of shoots, length of shoot, length of leaf, width of leaf, number of roots, and length of root. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results of the study showed different data on each parameters at different concentrations. All plants have the same percentage of live cuttings, which is 100% at each concentration. However, plants show varying time of shoot emergence, where the average time appears to be the fastest shoots at a concentration of 70% (P2) and the mean time appears the slower shoots on synthetic PGR (P5). In addition, a concentration of 70% indicates the highest average growth on the parameters of the number of shoots, the length of the shoots, and the number of roots. The highest average growth on the parameters of the length of the leaf, the width of leaf, and the length of the roots is indicated by a concentration of 85% (P4). This results of this study can be used as a source information in learning biology on Senior High School grade XII at Basic Competence of 3.1 Analyzing the relationship between internal and external factors with the growth process and development on living things.
