Abstract

This research aims to describe the image of women in the novel Suti by Sapardi Djoko Damono into the image of women in physical aspects, the image of psychological aspects, the social image of women, as well as its implications for the learning of Indonesian literature. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques in this research are reading and note-taking techniques. The results of this study show that the image of women is divided into two, namely the self-image of women seen from physical aspects and psychological aspects, and the social image of women seen from the image of women in the family and the image of women in society. The self-image of women from the physical aspect depicted in the novel Suti by Sapardi Djoko Damono is a beautiful woman. The image of women from the psychological aspect depicted in Sapardi Djoko Damono’s Suti is that women control their emotions, and can also handle demanding situations. The social image of women is simplified into women in the family and women in society. In the family environment, women are depicted as wives and mothers. Meanwhile, in society, she is portrayed as a woman who always needs other humans to achieve her perfection. The results of this study can be applied to the learning of Indonesian language and literature in SMA class XII, namely Basic Competency (KD) 3.9 Analyze the content and language of novels.
