Abstract

CaO/PEG/Fe3O4 composite is synthesized with a weight ratio of 1:0.5:1. CaO in the CaO/PEG/Fe3O4 composite is synthesized from cockle shell using thermal decomposition method through a calcination process at a temperature of 1000℃ for 4 hours. Fe3O4 is synthesized using the co-precipitation method. CaO/PEG/Fe3O4 composite is used for the adsorption process of methylene blue dye. This research aims to optimize the adsorption process of methylene blue dye using CaO/PEG/Fe3O4 composite adsorbent using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Optimization is performed using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with a central composite design (CCD) experimental design, to obtain the optimum adsorption conditions and determine the efficiency produced from specific adsorption conditions. The CaO/PEG/Fe3O4 composite is characterized by XRD, identifying diffraction pattern peaks corresponding to JCPDS at 2θ = 35.68 and 37.65. BET characterization results show a surface area of 75.73 m2/g. VSM characterization results indicate a magnetization value of 67.61 emu/g. The optimization of methylene blue dye adsorption by CaO/PEG/Fe3O4 composite using RSM obtained the optimum adsorption conditions at a concentration of 1 mg/L, contact time of 20.02 minutes, and pH of 9.99 with an efficiency of 95.17%.
