Abstract

The impact of Covid-19 has affected many economic sectors, one of which is the agricultural sector, especially in the food sector with rice as a commodity. The existence of the Covid-19 pandemic has also impacted the income of rice farmers and tested the ability of farmers to determine their survival strategies, one of the areas affected by this pandemic is Sungai Rotan Village, Muara Enim District. The aims of this study were: (1) To analyze the differences in the income of swamp rice farmers before and during the Covid-9 pandemic in Sungai Rotan Village, Muara Enim District, (2) To analyze the differences in food and non-food consumption patterns of swamp rice farmers before and during during the Covid-19 pandemic in Sungai Rotan Village, Muara Enim District, (3) Analyzing the survival strategies adopted by rice farmers in dealing with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in Sungai Rotan Village, Muara Enim District. The data processing method used is farm income analysis, t test, and likert scale which are processed by tabulation and explained descriptively. The results of the study show that: (1) There is a difference between rice farming income and rice farmer household income before and during the Covid-19 pandemic in Sungai Rotan Village, Muara Enim District. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the average rice farming income was IDR 11,915,516 per planting season and during the pandemic, farming income decreased to IDR 9,735,028 per planting season, (2) Household consumption patterns also experienced differences before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. With the average expenditure for household consumption also changing, before the Covid-19 pandemic the average expenditure for household consumption was IDR 11,598,750 and the cost decreased during the Covid-19 pandemic to IDR 10,240,350, (3) The impact of the pandemic Covid-19 has made farmers prefer to look for alternative jobs and make savings compared to going into debt or selling their assets.
