Abstract

Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) are one of the professions that are mostly practiced by Indonesian people. Especially in Malaysia where many Indonesian people become PMIs. However, PMI itself often faces problems. One of them is female PMI where there are many cases of female PMI in Malaysia facing obstacles such as not getting a salary, sexual violence, and others. One actor who has contributed to overcoming this problem is UN Women. This research also aims to take a deeper look at the effectiveness of UN Women in overcoming the problems faced by PMI women in Indonesia so that gender equality can be realized. This study uses qualitative methods and the theory of international organizational effectiveness. The results of this study indicate that UN Women has not been very successful in overcoming gender problems faced by female PMIs in Malaysia. This is because UN Women issued a special convention on migrant workers and the formation of national regulations by Indonesia. Even carrying out activities in the form of protection, fulfillment of social and economic rights, as well as conflict assistance. However, the results of the activities carried out by UN Women have not reduced the number of cases of problems with female PMIs in Malaysia. However, UN Women and its partners have carried out various efforts to overcome these problems. Keyword : PMI, UN Women, effectiveness, Malaysia, gender equality
