Abstract

Abstract Patchouli is a kind of shrub that produce essential oil. West Sumatera is one of many province that can produces patchouli. Patchouli is a newly cultivated commodity at Kamang Baru District Sijunjung Regency, which began to be planted around 2018. Every farming activity is inseparable from cost. Even for this patchouli farming that have cost structure. Patchouli farming is also not free from risks. Especially starting in 2020, the price of patchouli oil began to fall and made farmers reluctant to do farming. That is why patchouli was really interesting to study, especially in this case regarding the cost structure and possible risks that farmers will found related to patchouli farming. This research’s goals are : 1) to identify and analyze production cost structure of patchouli farming in Kamang Baru District Sijunjung Regency; 2) to identify and to describe farmer’s perception of patchouli farming risk in Kamang Baru District Sijunjung Regency; 3) to analyze the level of patchouli farming risk found by farmers in patchouli farming in Kamang Baru District Sijunjung Regency. This research was conducted in January to February 2023 at Kamang Baru District Sijunjung Regency. This location was chosen by purposively. The research methods that used in this study are survey and interview method. The sampling method that used is purposive sampling. Based on the result research, that farming cost stucture was higher than distillation cost, that were farming cost Rp28.445.777,78 or 65,91 percent, and distillation cost Rp14.711.666,67 or 34,09 percent. Farm perception about patchouli farming risk, price risk were higher than farming risk or other risk. The result of patchouli farming risk level at Kamang Baru district gets Coeviciency Variation Value less than 1, it means patchouli farming risk level is low.
