Abstract

ABSTRACT Environmental damage is a global issue. And the animation "Hope (2020)" is one of the animations that raises the issue of environmental damage and its impacts. This study aims to determine the meaning of nonverbal messages in the animation "Hope (2020)" using a descriptive qualitative research method. Sources of data were obtained through documentation and literature studies on the primary data of the "Hope (2020)" animation scene. This study uses Charles Sanders Peirce's Semiotics theory which focuses on studying signs. The analysis will go through Peirce's Trichotomy, Representamen, Object, and Interpretant processes. And the results of the study show the message of the meaning of environmental damage and its impact on marine biota as well as an overview of the process of human life's journey which is represented through a turtle hatchling named Aqua. This animation is one of the efforts to convey a message to the public to be aware of the use and management of waste. Keywords: Semiotics, Representation, Environmental Damage, Marine Debris, Hope Animation. ABSTRAK Kerusakan Lingkungan merupakan salah satu isu global. Dan animasi “Hope (2020)” merupakan salah satu animasi yang mengangkat isu kerusakan lingkungan dan dampaknya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui makna pesan nonverbal dalam animasi “Hope (2020)” menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Sumber data diperoleh melalui dokumentasi dan studi literatur pada data primer adegan Animasi “Hope (2020)”. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce yang berfokus mempelajari tanda. Analisis akan melalui proses Trikotomi Peirce, Representamen, Object, dan Interpretant. Dan Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pesan makna kerusakan lingkungan dan dampaknya terhadap biota laut serta gambaran proses perjalanan hidup manusia yang direpresentasikan melalui tukik penyu bernama Aqua. Animasi ini merupakan salah satu upaya untuk menyampaikan pesan kepada masyarakat agar sadar akan penggunaan dan pengelolaan sampah. Kata Kunci : Semiotika, Representasi, Kerusakan Lingkungan, Sampah Laut, Animasi Hope.
