Abstract

Diarrhea is a digestive disease which is the main cause of death in children in the world. Acute diarrhea is a type of diarrhea based on the length of time it lasts and can be defined as diarrhea in the form of liquid feces and more than normal amount that lasts less than 14 days. Many children who suffer from acute diarrhea visiting the hospital encourage research to evaluate the use of antibiotics. This study aims to determine the accuracy of the use of antibiotics in pediatric patients with acute diarrhea in the inpatient installation of Siti Khadijah Islamic Hospital in 2018. This research is a non-experimental study, carried out by descriptive analysis method with retrospective data collection, based on the patient's medical record. The data obtained are 64 samples that meet the inclusion criteria with the proportion of 62% male and 38% female, based on age most occur at the age of 1-3 years as much as 50%. The antibiotics used were ceftriaxone (81%), cefixime (9%), ampicillin (2%), gentamicin (5%), and a combination of ampicillin and ceftazidime (3%). The rational use of antibiotics were found as 95% precise diagnosis, 95% precise indication, 95% precise drug, 87% precise dose and route of administration, and 100% of patients had no side effects. The use of rationally antibiotic is 56 patients (87%) of the 64 patients
