Abstract
The high growth of the textile industry is not balanced with good wastewater treatment, so it needs to be treated with the adsorption method. CaO and the synthesized CaO/PDA nanoparticle composite were used as adsorbents in congo red dye adsorption with variations in contact time, concentration, and temperature and then were characterized using XRD, FTIR and BET. The XRD characterization results showed the highest intensity of CaO at an angle of 2θ=37.3510° and CaO/PDA nanoparticle composite at an angle of 2θ=26.5344°. The BET characterization results showed a CaO surface area of 0.726 m2/g and a CaO/PDA nanoparticle composite of 33.828 m2/g. The results of the FTIR characterization showed that the Ca-O functional group was at 708.2-972.2 cm-1 and there was an NH functional group at 1595.3 cm-1-1610.2 cm-1. After adsorption, a new absorption group appeared in the form of S-O at 1177.8 cm-1. Optimum conditions for CaO at a contact time of 90 minutes with a concentration of 250 mg/L and 120 minutes for the CaO/PDA nanoparticle composite with a concentration of 275 mg/L and both are optimal at a temperature of 50℃. This research is more in accordance with pseudo second order adsorption kinetics and langmuir adsorption isotherm which is endothermic and occurs non-spontaneously.
