Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem on Maspari Island is new information that is studied in this study. Mangroves have a function in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through a sequestration mechanism. This study aims to identify the types of mangroves that grow on Maspari Island and to estimate the biomass of the upper stand, lower stand/roots, and sediments around the mangrove ecosystem. Estimating mangrove carbon biomass using allometric equations and sediment carbon analysis methods refers to Howard et al. 2014. The results of this study showed that six types of mangroves were found consisting of Rhizophora stylosa, Rhizophora apiculate, Bruguiera parviflora, Excocaria agalloch, Avicennia marina, and Sonneratia alba with a total number of 436 individuals from the tree and sapling level. The total biomass of the above stand at all stations was around 7326,43 tons/ha with a total carbon stock of around 3443,42 tons C/ha and the total bottom stand biomass at all stations was around 1836,08 tons/ha with a total carbon stock of around 862,96 tons C/ha. The estimated value of biomass and carbon stock is influenced by the size of the tree diameter and the number of individuals at each station. The total carbon stock of mangrove sediments at all stations ranges from 240.71 tonC/ha with a percentage value of organic matter ranging from 1.699% -9.970% and a percentage value of organic carbon ranging from 3.60% -7.03%. The value of the sediment content is affected by the depth used, which is 10 cm and the sediment texture on Maspari Island is sand.
