Abstract

Limbah cair industri tahu dapat berpotensi mencemari lingkungan jika langsung dibuang ke lingkungan tanpa diolah terlebih dahulu. Limbah cair industri tahu dapat diolah menggunakan elektrokoagulasi dengan elektroda aluminium. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kuat arus dan waktu kontak bervariasi terhadap penurunan kadar Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS) dan amonia serta kenaikan nilai pH pada limbah cair industri tahu. Kuat arus yang dialirkan sebanyak 4 variasi (10,20,30,40 A) dan waktu kontak sebanyak 5 variasi (30,60,90,120,150 menit). Hasil terbaik diperoleh dari perlakuan pada kuat arus 40 A dan waktu kontak 150 menit dengan efisiensi penurunan tertinggi kadar COD, TSS, TDS, amonia berturut-turut adalah sebesar 90,35%; 92%; 66%; 85% serta kenaikan nilai pH sebesar 108%. Hasil analisa keragaman atau uji lanjut tukey menunjukkan bahwa pada taraf 5% pada setiap perlakuan variasi kuat arus dan waktu kontak sangat memberikan pengaruh nyata terhadap penurunan kadar COD, TSS, TDS dan amonia serta kenaikan nilai pH. Analisa secara kinetika kimia terhadap penurunan kadar COD dan TSS menunjukkan hasil yang mendekati linear terhadap orde satu dan didapatkan nilai R2 dan nilai k berturut-turut sebesar (0,9904; 0,0164) ; (0,9952; 0,0182) pada variasi kuat arus 40 A.
