Abstract
Body odor is a problem that can interfere with a person's activities caused by bacteria that break down sweat into substances that smell bad. One of the plants that has the potential as an antibacterial agent is basil because of the presence of eugenol which is effective against the growth of S.aureus bacteria. This study aims to determine variations in the concentration of basil leaf essential oil as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus. The results were analyzed using the SPSS® program. Variations in the concentration of basil leaf essential oil were 5%, 10%, and 15% with the components stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, glycerin, tween 80, liquid paraffin, methyl paraben, propyl paraben and aquadest. The preparation evaluation tests carried out included organoleptic, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion, and irritation tests. The test results showed that the deodorant lotion preparation had the strongest anti-bacterial activity, namely the F3 preparation with 15% basil leaf essential oil with a resultant inhibition zone diameter of 21.78 mm. Antibacterial activity was determined by well diffusion method. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration deodorant lotion got the best formula results at a concentration of 250 ppm and the control of pure basil essential oil at a concentration of 500 ppm. The best Minimum Kill Concentration for deodorant lotion is no bacterial growth at a concentration of 500 ppm. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the more the composition of basil essential oil, the stronger the antibacterial inhibition. The greater the concentration of basil leaves essential oil causes the pH to rise, the viscosity to decrease, the spreading power to increase and the adhesive power to decrease.
