Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to investigate the effect of medicine ball throw and catch training on forearm muscle strength in extracurricular handball activities at SMAN 14 Palembang. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and used a pretest-posttest group design. The independent variable was the throw and catch training using a medicine ball, while the dependent variable was forearm muscle strength. The study population consisted of participants in the handball extracurricular at SMAN 14 Palembang, with a sample size of 30 individuals. The push and pull dynamometer was used as the measurement tool. The participants were given a 6-week treatment of throw and catch training using a medicine ball, with a frequency of three times a week. Based on the research findings, it was observed that the throw and catch training using a medicine ball had a significant effect on forearm muscle power. This result was supported by a hypothesis test using the paired sample t-test with the assistance of SPSS version 26, which showed a significance value of 0.00 with a significance level (α) of 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the sig. 0.00 < 0.05, and the decision made was to reject Ho and accept Ha. Thus, it can be suggested that there is an impact of throw and catch training using a medicine ball on forearm muscle power in extracurricular handball activities at SMAN 14 Palembang.
