Abstract

The use of outside-the-family labor in rice farming is still quite high, so the authors are interested in examining the factors that influence the use of outside-family labor, such as socio-economic characteristics (age, education level, land area, length of time farming, number of family members, and household income). The objectives of this study are 1) to determine the composition of the use of labor within and outside the farming family in rice farming in Pelabuhan Dalam Village Pemulutan District Ogan Ilir Regency; 2) To calculate the household income of rice farmers in Pelabuhan Dalam Village Pemulutan District Ogan Ilir Regency; 3) To analyze the influence of socio-economic characteristics (age, education level, land area, length of farming, number of family members, and household income) on the use of labor outside the farming family in rice farming in Pelabuhan Dalam Village Pemulutan District Ogan Ilir Regency. The research was conducted in June-July in Pelabuhan Dalam Village Pemulutan District Ogan Ilir Regency. The data collection method used is in the form of primary and secondary data which is then processed using Excel and SPSS. Samples are selected based on random sampling. The results of this study were 1) The proportion of the use of labor within and outside the family in Pelabuhan Dalam Village resulted from a total of 40 respondents 74 percent used labor outside the family in their rice farming, the labor within the family used was only 26 percent of the total workforce that helped process farmer farming in Pelabuhan Dalam Village; 2) The average total income of farmers in rice farming in Pelabuhan Dalam Village is IDR 19,632,375 per hectare per planting season. Meanwhile, the average total income of farmer households in Pelabuhan Dalam Village is IDR 22,402,375 per cultivated area per year; 3) Factors that have a significant effect on the use of outside family labor in Pelabuhan Dalam Village are household income, age, level of education, and land area. While other factors, namely the length of time farming and the number of family members have no significant effect on the use of labor outside the family in Pelabuhan Dalam Village.
