Abstract

Polymeric materials such as epoxy resin are widely used as insulating materials in electrical devices, but polymer epoxy resin materials are generally susceptible to environmental influences and exposure to electric fields. To improve the insulating deficiencies of epoxy resin polymers, additional particles can be added. The addition of excess particles can result in a decrease in the quality of the epoxy resin insulation, then a stoichiometry method is needed to determine the right composition in making the sample. The epoxy resin insulating material is filled with Al2O3 with various concentrations of 0; 2; 2.5; 3; and 5 wt% with various hardener ratios of 100; 90; and 80 HP. The test was carried out using the Mc Keown Test Specimen method with the application of an alternating voltage which was increased slowly at an increase rate of 100 V/s. The test sample will be formed measuring 9 mm x 9 mm and 0.5 mm thick. The test results show that the addition of Aluminum Oxide (Al2O3) to the Epoxy Resin insulation material can increase the resistivity and thermal conductivity so that it can withstand stress better. However, if the addition of excessive filler will cause the value of the breakdown voltage to be lower. The average PDIV value obtained for the epoxy resin test samples with a hardener variation of 100 HP respectively was 1,704; 1.7374; 1.7258; 1.7106; and 1.6894 kV. With a hardener variation of 90 HP respectively, it is 1.7068; 1,783; 1.7588; 1.7508; and 1.7102 kV. With a hardener variation of 80 HP respectively, it is 1.71; 1.7348; 1.7038; 1.6994; and 1.6754 kV. Meanwhile, the average value of VBD with 100 HP variations is 4.0504; 4.1474; 4.1014; 4.0706; and 4.0528. With a hardener variation of 90 HP, the successive numbers are 4.1992; 4.2748; 4.2198; 4,198; and 4.1468 kV. With a hardener variation of 80 HP, the number is 4,027; 4,062; 4.0314; 3.9874; and 3.9082 kV.
