Abstract

This research reports the result about enhancement dielectric strength of kraft paper impregnated with oil blend of diala B oil and corn oil with filler Al2O3 with a concentration of 0.5 wt%. The kraft paper sample used is in the form of a sheet with a thickness of 0.04 mm and a size of 30 mm x 30 mm. The kraft paper samples impregnated with a mixture of diala B oil and corn oil with or without Al2O3 as filler were subjected to thermal aging treatment at 100oC with a variation of time of 8, 16, and 24 hours. The test was carried out using needle-plate electrodes with a distance of 1 mm. The application voltage is alternating high voltage with an increase rate of 100 V/s. The PDIV and Vbd test results of kraft paper impregnated with an oil blend without Al2O3 filler under conditions without thermal aging were 2.197 kV and 3.515 kV, respectively. And after being given the thermal aging treatment, the PDIV and Vbd values decreased, with the highest percentage reduction in samples with a thermal aging treatment for 24 hours, namely 42.769% and 41.997%. Whereas for kraft paper samples impregnated with a mixture of oil and filler Al2O3 at 0 hours of thermal aging, the PDIV and Vbd values were 2.6216 kV and 4.412 kV. And after being given the thermal aging treatment, the PDIV and Vbd values decreased with the largest percentage decrease in the samples that were given the thermal aging treatment for 24 hours, namely 24.058% and 34.139%. However, from the results of these measurements, it can be seen that there was an increase in the PDIV and Vbd values in the samples impregnated with a mixture of oil and Al2O3 as filler. From using Al2O3, the greatest increase occurred in thermal aging for 24 hours is 37.274 kV and 32.883 kV. Keywords: Al2O3, kraft paper, Diala B, corn oil, PDIV, Vbd
