Abstract

This study discusses Used Cooking Oil (UCO) as an alternative to transformer oil using refining, adsorbent and absorbent methods. This method is used to reduce contaminants in oil, free fatty acid content and water content. The first method uses the refining method which uses caustic soda. Caustic soda is useful for reducing the levels of free fatty acids in oil. When the sample has been applied, the sample becomes Neutralized Used Cooking Oil or NUCO. The next method is the adsorbent method using bentonite. This method is useful for clarifying and removing contaminants from the oil to be tested. The sample became Bleaching Used Cooking Oil or BUCO. The next method is using the absorbent method which uses silica gel material. Silica gel here acts as an absorbent for the free fatty acid levels in the oil and its water content. The result of this method is Treatment Used Cooking Oil or TUCO. After all the methods have been applied to the sample, the sample is tested for breakdown voltage and each cycle is used to compare the breakdown voltage value. the breakdown voltage value of pure oil is 3,785 kV, and UCO is at 2,237 kV. The value of the breakdown voltage of NUCO is 2,357 kV, and the value of BUCO is 2,858 kV, and the last sample is TUCO which is at a value of 3,426 kV. Furthermore, the sample was tested physicochemically. The data tested are data on free fatty acid content and water content in the oil. The physicochemical results of pure oil are the free fatty acid content at a value of 0.11% and a water content of 0.06%. UCO values are at 0.36% and 0.83%.
