Abstract

THE RESEARCH AREA IS IN THE LINTAU BUO REGION, TANAH DATAR DISTRICT, WEST SUMATRA. GEOLOGICALLY THIS AREA IS ON THE EDGE OF THE OMBILIN BASIN WHICH HAS ACTIVE TECTONIC CONDITIONS. THIS STUDY AIMS TO OBTAIN DATA ON THE LEVEL OF TECTONIC ACTIVITY USING A QUANTITATIVE GEOMORPHOLOGICAL APPROACH WHICH IS CARRIED OUT IN THE BATANG SINAMAR SUB-WATERSHED AND THE BATANG TAMPO SUB-WATERSHED WHICH IS DIVIDED INTO 3 SEGMENTS. SOME OF THE PARAMETERS USED FOR THIS STUDY INCLUDE DRAINAGE DENSITY (DD), BIFURCATION RATIO (RB), HYPSOMETRIC INTEGRAL (HI), MOUNTAIN FRONT SINOUSITY (SMF), VALLEY FLOOR WIDTH AND HEIGHT RATIO (VF), AND ASYMMETRY FACTOR (AF). THE RESULTS OF THE ANALYSIS IN SEGMENT 1, SEGMENT 2, AND SEGMENT 3 OF THE BATANG SINAMAR SUB-WATERSHED AND BATANG TAMPO SUB-WATERSHED SHOW THAT THE DD VALUE IS IN CLASS 2, THE RB VALUE IS IN CLASS 2, THE HI VALUE IS IN CLASS 2, THE SMF VALUE IS IN CLASS 2 AND CLASS 3, VF VALUES FOR CLASS 1, CLASS 2 AND CLASS 3, AND AF VALUES ENTERED INTO CLASS 1 AND CLASS 2. THEN THE RESULTS OF THE ANALYSIS WERE COMPARED USING IAT (INDEX OF ACTIVE TECTONIC) ANALYSIS TO INTERPRET THE LEVEL OF TECTONIC ACTIVITY AT THE STUDY SITE. THEN THE RESULTS OF THE IAT CALCULATION ARE OBTAINED WITH SEGMENT 1 ENTERING CLASS 3, NAMELY MODERATE TECTONICS, SEGMENTS 2 AND 3 ENTERING CLASS 2, NAMELY HIGH TECTONICS. SO IT CAN BE INTERPRETED THAT THE FORMATION OF THE MORPHOLOGY OF THE STUDY SITE IS CONTROLLED BY MODERATE TO HIGH LEVELS OF TECTONIC ACTIVITY THAT AFFECT THE SHAPE OF THE SURFACE OF THE STUDY SITE, SUCH AS DENUDATIONAL AND EROSIONAL PROCESSES THAT CAUSE SOIL MOVEMENT AND LANDSLIDES.
