Abstract

The incidence of ARI disease in toddlers in Talang Ubi Timur Village, PALI Regency (Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir) is included in the 10 most diseases that have increased cases in 2021. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between environmental factors and the characteristics of toddlers with Symptoms of Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) in toddlers aged 12-59 months in Talang ubi Timur sub-district, PALI distric. This study used a Cross Sectional design, the population of this study was toddlers. The sampling technique used was Cluster Sampling on 114 respondents. This analysis was carried out using univariate, bivariate and multivariate methods. The results showed 57,9% of toddlers who had experienced ARI, bivariate analysis showed that there was no relationship between toddler age (p-value = 0,547), sex (p-value = 0,862), immunization status (p-value = 0,867), nutritional status (p-value = 1,000), low birth weight (p-value = 0,695), distance of the house from the highway (p-value = 0,276) with the incidence of ARI in toddlers. There is a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding (p-value = 0,001), ventilation area (p-value = 0,008), occupancy density (p-value = 0,000), smoking habits of family members (p-value = 0,003) with the incidence of ARI in toddlers. Multivariate results showed that the factor that most influenced the incidence of ARI in toddlers was occupancy density (p-value = 0,000) (PR = 10,289; CI = 3,273-32,342). The conclusion in this study is that the incidence of ARI in toddlers is strongly influenced by occupancy density. The government andhealth agencies should increase risk factor counseling activities regarding physical risk factors of the house associated with ARI disease and intervene such as routinely cleaning the house from dust, the habit of opening windows and doors, and PHBS for each family member and make it a habit by doing it every day.
