Abstract

Generally the starting current on the motor is equivalent to four times higher than the nominal current, higher currents make the motor coil heat up quickly, if left unchecked it will shorten the life of the motor. It is important to know the current in a single-phase induction motor so that there is no increase in current that is so high that it can make the single-phase induction motor last longer. The author will discuss the Analysis of Starting Current and Torque in Single Phase Induction Motors With the Addition of Capacitors. From the research, the starting current and torque values were generated. When the capacitor was 8µF, the starting current was 3.78 Ampere and the torque was 0.3, while the capacitor was 8µF+ 1.5µF, the starting current was 3.76 Ampere and the torque was 0.45, the capacitor 8µF+ 2µF was starting current was 3.65 Ampere. and torque 0.49, capacitor 8µF+ 3µF starting current 3.59 Ampere and torque 0.52, capacitor 8µF+ 4µF starting current 3.46 Ampere and torque 0.61, capacitor 8µF+ 5µF starting current 3.45 Ampere and torque 0.70 , 8µF+ 6µF capacitor with a starting current of 3.54 Amperes and a torque of 0.79. From the data it can be seen that increasing the value of the capacitor will reduce the current value and increase the torque. A good capacitor in this study is the 8µF+ 5µF capacitor because the current value is smaller than the addition of other capacitors
