Abstract

NUTRITION MAGISTER PROGRAM OF PUBLIC HEALTH SCIENCE FACULTY OF PUBLIC HEALTH SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY Scientific papers in the form thesis June, 27 2023 Ani Meliyani: Supervised by Rico Januar Sitorus and Rostika Flora The Assosiation Between Fe Intake and Iron Deficiency Anemia In Pregnant Women in Seluma District ABSTRACT Background : Undiagnosed and untreated iron deficiency anemia can have a major impact on the health of the mother and fetus. Iron has a very important role in the production of hemoglobin and for the transportation of oxygen. Therefore, to deal with the increase in blood mass, growth and development of the fetus, iron requirements in pregnant women increases up to three times. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between iron intake and the incidence of IDA in Seluma district. Method : This type of research is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design that took a sample of 136 pregnant women from 4 community health centers in Seluma district. Iron intake was measured by the 3x24 hour food recall and IDA was determined by measuring HB, serum fe and TIBC levels Result : There is a significant relationship between iron intake and the incident of IDA in pregnant women with p-value = 0.037 OR = 0.328 <1 which means iron intake is a protective factor not a risk factor for anemia. The results of the final modeling of multivariate analysis of the selection process that has been carried out on 6 variables related to IDA, gestational age is the only one variable that significantly controls iron intake. Conclusion : The results of bivariate test analysis of several variable in pregnant women in Seluma district showed there was a significat relationship between economic status, gestational age, and iron intake with incidence of IDA in pregnant women (p-value < 0.005) Keyword : pregnant women, iron intake, IDA
