Abstract

oddler age is the golden age (golden period) for child growth and development.so adequate nutritional intake is needed to support optimal growth and development. However, at the age of five, many children have a habit of having dificuly eating and exhibit picky eater behavior. Picky eaters are behaviors that tend to be picky about food, reject new foods, avoid certain rypes of food and eat certain foods repeatedly. One of the impacts of picky eater behavior is that toddlers have the potential o experience utritional deficiencies so that they can affect nutritional status in toddlers. This study aims to determine the relationship between picky eater behavior and the utritional status of toddlers. This research is a descriptive analytic research with cross sectional method. The study was conducted on 71 toddlers and their mothers aged 24-59 months using purposive sampling Picky eater behavior was obtained hrough he Children Eating behavior Questionnare (CEBO) instrument and nutritional status data was obtained by measuring the height and weight of toddlers and categorized based on the 1-score of weight for height (weight/height). Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi square test. The results showed that as mary as 62 toddlers (87.3%) had picky eater behavior and the mitritional status of most of the respondents was normal as many as 48 toddlers (67.6%). In this study, there was no significant relationship between picky eater behavior and nutritional status in toddlers (p = 0.254 > 0.05. Picky eater behavior in children requires special attention from parents to be able to pay attention to balanced nutritional intake in children for optimal growth and development.
