Abstract

The low quality of basic sanitation in school canteens can affect fly populations as disease vectors. Poor basic sanitation in school canteens in Lahat District has the potential to cause health problems. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship of basic sanitation of school canteen with flies density in area of Lahat Subdistrict. This research is a quantitative research with Cross Sectional study design with a sampling technique that is purposive sampling technique. The data analysis in the chi-square test. The results of data analysis showed a relationship between the place of washing the cooking equipment (p-value = 0.028), the tools to prevent flies (p-value = 0.010), temperature (p-value = 0.026), humidity (p-value = 0.028) with fly density. While the variables type trash (p-value = 0.098) and waste water sewer (p-value = 0.407) did not show any relationship with fly density. It was concluded that basic sanitation such as conditions for washing equipment and means of preventing flies were factors causing the density of flies; temperature and humidity are also influencing factors, so it is recommended that the canteen provide 3 washing tubs, adhesive paper and chili water and provide a dehumidifier in the form of silica gel to regulate temperature and humidity in the school canteen.
