Abstract

Open defecation (BABS) behavior is still common in Indonesia. In a number of areas, people still defecate openly in rivers or streams. Utilization of latrines accompanied by family participation will be better if supported by factors originating from the individual, including education, knowledge, attitudes, actions, habits, work, gender. Data from the 2014 WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Program, as many as 55 million people in Indonesia still practice open defecation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influence the use of latrines on the health of the people of Karang Raja Village. This research is qualitative with survey, observation and interview methods. Validity Test using sources, methods and data. In this study, a sample of 59 people was selected using the purposive sampling method to represent the data as a whole. The research results obtained several factors that influence the use of latrines, there are 4 independent variables and 1 dependent variable. Of the most dominant variables influencing the use of latrines on education and knowledge variables. From this research, it is expected that education and outreach in the health sector, especially the use of latrines, must be increased in order to create a healthy environment free from infectious diseases. Provide public latrines for the people of Karang Raja Village so that they can use the latrines and not use the river as a place for defecation which can cause environmental pollution and spread of disease.
