Abstract

The karst area has biodiversity with a fairly high level of endemicity, in which there are a variety of ecosystems and also insects. The existence of insects in an ecosystem has an important role, especially in maintaining the balance of ecosystem such as the role of Hymenoptera, South Sumatra Province has karst which is located in OKU Regency. Padang Bindu which consists of 12 caves, including Putri Cave and Candi Cave. Putri cave that have been used as a tourist areas, while Candi Cave has not been used as a tourist areas. Therefore it is necessary to do research on the diversity of Hymenoptera in the karst areas of Putri Cave and Candi Cave. This study aims to determine the abundance and diversity of Hymenoptera. Sampling was carried out from 5-10 February 2023 in the Karst area of Putri Cave and Candi Cave, Padang Bindu, OKU Regency, South Sumatra. In the tree, bush and shrub vegetation types using pitfall trap, sweep net, yellow pan trap and hand collection. Observation and identification of samples was carried out from February 15 to March 16, 2023 at the MZB Laboratory, Bogor Regency, West Java. The stages of research consist of determining the location of the study, taking maples, collecting data, preserving specimens, identifying insects and analyzing data. The result of identification of Hymenoptera were 354 individuals consisting 5 families including Formicidae, Apidae, Vespidae, Ichneumonidae and Halictidae. And 11 genera including Camponotus, Oecophylla, Tapinoma, Odontomachus, Diacamma, Tetramorium, Polyharchis, Apis, Ropalidia, Phimenes and Nomia with the highest abundance of Hymenoptera was found in the Candi Cave area which was dominated by species from the family Formicidae. The highest diversity was in the Putri Cave area, while the highest dominance was in the Candi Cave area this shows that Putri Cave has a more even distribution of species compared to Candi Cave.
