Abstract
Flexural strength is one of important mechanical properties for heat cured acrylic resin as denture base material. Polyethylene fiber can be used to reinforced material for denture base. This study is aimed to observe the influence of immersion duration in “cuka pempek” to flexural strength of denture base material heat cured acrylic resin reinforced with polyethylene fiber. Thirty heat cured acrylic resins samples (65x10x3mm) were made and divided into the 5 groups. The first group as control group (used fiber without immersion), group 2 without fiber and were immersed in “cuka pempek” for 30 hours. Group 3 without fiber and were immersed in “cuka pempek” for 60 hours. Group 4 with fiber and were immersed in “cuka pempek” for 30 hours. Group 5 with fiber and were immersed in “cuka pempek” for 60 hours. Three point bending test was done with Universal Testing Machine and value of flexural strength in Mpa unit. Data was analyzed using One Way Anova test and continued with Post-Hoc LSD test. The result showed that flexural strength of acrylic resin in group 1(control group) was 106.25 ± 7.336 MPa , group 2 was 63.88±11.075 Mpa, group 3 was 63.88±11.075 Mpa, group 4 was 103.47±9.285 Mpa, group 5 was 100.69±10.998 MPa. Data showed that flexural strength decreased in group 2 and 3 significantly. The result of study was concluded that there was influence of immersion duration in “cuka pempek” to flexural strength of denture base material heat cured acrylic resin reinforced with polyethylene fiber.
