Abstract

Malaria is a disease caused by the plasmodium parasite and transmitted through the bite of a female anopheles mosquito that lives in tropical climates. This study aims to analyze the relationship between environmental factors and community behavior factors on the incidence of malaria in the Talang Jawa area of Lahat Regency. This research method is quantitative with a cross-sectional study approach, the number of samples is 77 respondents using the Lameshow formula, sampling was carried out using the Simple Random Sampling (SRS) research method. The data collection technique used a questionnaire, then the data were analyzed by univariate, bivariate and multivariate. Test analysis using chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. The results of the univariate analysis found that based on the characteristics of the respondents, the majority of respondents experienced malaria, namely 50 (64.9%) respondents. The results of the bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between stagnant water (p-value = <0.001), the presence of bushes (p-value = 0.020), the presence of livestock pens (p-value = 0.043), the habit of using mosquito nets (p-value = 0.005), the habit of using mosquito coils at night (p-value = 0.002) and the habit of leaving the house at night (p-value = 0.057). In the multivariate flow analysis, it was found that only stagnant water variables were associated with malaria after controlling for the variables bushes, cages, mosquito nets, mosquito coils, and night out (p-value = 0.010). PR 20.729 (CI: 2.073 – 207.254) was obtained. The conclusion is that the variable that has the most influence on the incidence of malaria in the community is the variable of stagnant water around the house which is most at risk of getting malaria 20 times greater than a place where there are no puddles around the house. Education related to the incidence of malaria must continue to be carried out by providing input to the community to pay attention to the health of the environment in which they live, which is a risk factor for malaria transmission.
