Abstract

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a disorder that usually occurs in children, in the form of a short attention spans, switching attention easily and high levels of physical activity, meaning that children with this disorder do not pay attention and have difficulty concentrating on anything that they are doing. Many things can happen if ADHD is not immediately detected, including that children with this disorder will experience social barriers, and the results of some studies revealed that this disorder can even cause a decrease in learning achievement which will then affect their further education. The objective of this study is to disclose the relationship between ADHD and learning achievement in elementary scholl-aged children, a quantitative research method with a cross sectional approach and the chi square test were used in this study. The sampling method used in this study was the proportionate stratified random sampling with a total sample of 251 respondents. This study was conducted directly by filling out a questionnaire administered to respondent’s parent/guardians. Univariate and bivariate analyses and the chi square test with a degree of confidence of 95% or α= 0.05 were used for analyzing the data. Based on the results of the responses of 251 respondents, as many as 50 (19.9%) respondents who were likely to experience ADHD had poor learning achievement, and 4 (1.6%) respondents who were likely to experience ADHD had good learning achievement. The statistical test results revealed a P-value = 0,000, so that was a significant relationship between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and learning achievement among elementary school-age children. The children with Attentiong Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) need special attention and appropriate learning methods so that they can receive the learning provided properly and obtain better learning outcomes.
