Abstract

Malay combtail (Belontia hasselti, Cuvier 1831) is one of the freshwater fish species inhabiting the floodplain. The species has the prospect of becoming an aquaculture commodity as an ornamental fish. This study aimed to analyze the sexual dimorphism, reproductive biology, and growth pattern of B. hasselti. Sample collection was conducted in the Kelekar Floodplain area, Ogan Ilir Regency. Fishing samples using traditional fishing gear, namely fish traps (bubu and pengilar). Measurement of study parameters was carried out at the Sriwijaya University Fisheries Basic Laboratory. A total of 100 B. hasselti samples were used in this study (56 males, total length 8.00-13.24 cm, weight 9.50-37.49 g; 44 females, total length 8.00-13.99 cm, weight 9.00-38.99 g). The results showed that there were no differences in total length, weight, and meristic characters of male and female B. hasselti, but there were differences in morphometric characters. These differences were in HK, HW, ED, CFL, CFW, DFL(D), DFL(B), AFL(D), AFL(B), PFL and VAF. IHS of males ranged from 0.46-2.71% for females 0.57- 3.30%, GMS of males ranged from 0.05-0.57%, and for females 0.35-11.09%. GMS of males ranged from I-IV and females II-V. Sex ratio 1.19:1.00 (male: female). Fecundity ranged from 1.011 to 4.370 eggs. Egg diameter ranged from 0.8 to 1.7 mm. Growth pattern of male fish was positively allometric (y = 0.0125x3.0987, R2 = 0.8182) while females were negatively allometric (y = 0.0596x2.4031, R2 = 0.7942). Spesies ini memiliki prospek menjadi komoditi akuakultur sebagai ikan hias. Tujuan penelitian ini menganalisis dimorfisme seksual, biologi reproduksi dan pola pertumbuhan B. hasselti. Pengumpulan sampel telah dilakukan di areal Rawa Banjiran Kelekar, Kabupaten Ogan Ilir. Penangkapan ikan sampel menggunakan alat tangkap tradisional yakni perangkap ikan (bubu dan pengilar). Pengukuran parameter studi dilakukan di Laboratorium Dasar Perikanan Universitas Sriwijaya. Sebanyak 100 B. hasselti sampel digunakan pada studi ini (56 jantan, panjang total 8,00-13,24 cm, bobot tubuh 9,50-37,49 g; 44 betina, panjang total 8,00-13,99 cm, bobot tubuh 9,00- 38,99 g). Hasil studi menunjukan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan panjang total, bobot dan karakter meristik B. hasselti jantan dan betina, namun ada perbedaan karakter morfometrik. Perbedaan tersebut yakni pada PK, LK, DM, PSE, LPSE, PSPG(D), PSPG(B), PSA(D), PSA(B), PSD dan JM-SP. IHS jantan berkisar 0,46-2,71% betina 0,57-3,30%, IGS jantan berkisar 0,05-0,57%, betina 0,35-11,09%. TKG jantan berkisar I-IV dan betina II-V. Rasio kelamin 1,19:1,00 (jantan: betina). Fekunditas berkisar 1,011-4,370 butir. Diameter telur berkisar 0,8-1,7 mm. Pola pertumbuhan ikan jantan allometrik positif (y = 0,0125x 3,0987, R2 = 0,8182) sedangkan betina allometrik negatif (y = 0,0596x 2,4031, R2 = 0,7942).
