Abstract

This research aims to compare the elements of heroism in the Hollywood film "Hacksaw Ridge" and the local film "Jenderal Soedirman," as well as identify the cultural influences that shape these heroic actions. The theoretical framework employed in this study is Scott T. Allison's Heroism Theory. The research methodology used is descriptive qualitative research, with the data collection technique being documentary study, which involves extracting scene excerpts from the films through the Bstation streaming platform. The analysis technique utilized here is Roland Barthes' semiotics, specifically the Two Orders of Signification. The research findings reveal a total of 20 scenes, with 10 scenes from "Hacksaw Ridge" and 10unit scenes from "Jenderal Soedirman," representing heroism according to Scott T. Allison's analysis of myths. It is observed that "Hacksaw Ridge" incorporates elements of pacifism, while "Jenderal Soedirman" embraces elements of nationalism Keywords: Film, Heroism, Pacifism, Nationalism
