Abstract

The research was in the Kinantan Besar River area and its surroundings, Batang Asai District, Sarolangun Regency, Jambi. Tectonically, the study area is in the Jambi Sub Basin. This study aims to identify Geomorphology, Stratigraphy, Geological Structure, and Granite Characteristics in the Arai Granite Formation. The research was conducted using preliminary study methods, field observation, and laboratory analysis. The study area is divided into 4 landform units, namely Meander River (MR), Steep Sloped Hills (PBC), Intrusion Hills (BI), and Fault Zone Hills (PZS). Based on Stratigraphy, the research area is composed of Pre-Tertiary rocks, namely the Asai Formation (Ja) and the Arai Granite Formation (Kgr). Asai Formation (Ja) became the basement in the research area. In the Early-Late Cretaceous, there was intrusive rock penetration by the Arai Granite Formation (Kgr) against the older Asai (Ja) Formation. Then, there was another rock breakthrough in the Middle Miocene that produced the Andesite Formation (Tman). The geological structure that developed in the study area was formed in the compressional phase that formed the Muara Loader Ascending Fault. Petrography laboratory analysis was carried out with 12 granite samples using a polarizing microscope. It can be concluded that based on the results of the withdrawal, the percentage of minerals has a rock name in the form of Granite with monzogranite types at three observation locations, namely Observation Location 10, Observation Location 12, and Observation Location 51. Based on the results of the withdrawal, the percentage of minerals has rock names in the form of Granite with the type of syenogranite at nine observation locations, namely Observation Location 1, Observation Location 14, Observation Location 21, Observation Location 29, Observation Location 30, Observation Location 31, Observation Location 47, Observation Location 58 and Observation Location 60. It has a special texture with the presence of graphic textures and perhite is an intergrowth between quartz minerals and alkaline feldspar. Monzogranite-type granite has constituent minerals in the form of quartz, alkali feldspar, plagioclase, biotite, sericite, secondary biotite, and chlorite. Syenogranite-type granite with constituent minerals in the form of quartz, alkali feldspar, plagioclase, pyroxene, hornblende, biotite, opaque, sericite, secondary biotite, and chlorite. Granite in the study area is included in the type of S-type granite. Formed in the subduction zone due to the collision of two plates, namely the West Sumatra Block and the Woyla Arc. Hornblende is rarely found and generally, biotite is always present in incisions where the mineral biotite is one of the characteristics of S-type minerals. In rock, incisions appear a lot of the presence of the mineral sericite. The content of SiO2 has a fairly high abundance compared to the content of Ca and Na.
