Abstract

Toxicity is the ability of a substance to cause damage to living organisms, such as causing functional, physiological (structural) or biochemical disturbances which can result in disruption of the general body condition due to pain caused by a substance. One of the plants used by Indonesian people as a medicinal plant is the saga plant (Abrus precatorius L.). The aim of this study was to determine the type of solvent that produced a higher yield value, to determine the LC50 value of each n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol extract of saga (Abrus precatorius L.,) seeds based on the results of toxicity tests on Artemia salina shrimp larvae. L. and to determine the class of compounds that have potential bioactivity contained in saga seeds by using the Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) method. This research was conducted from September 2022 to December 2022. This research was conducted at the Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University and this research was continued to test the content of secondary metabolites using Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) ) at the Bareskrim POLRI Bogor Forensic Laboratory Center, Jl. Tangkil – Agrabinta, Cipambuan, Kec. Babakan Madang, Sentul, Bogor, West Java, ID: 16810. The research procedure was started from the preparation of saga seed samples, then extracted, the preparation of artificial seawater, hatching larvae, toxicity tests with the BSLT method, and identification with the GCMS method. The results obtained from this study are the highest yield value, namely methanol solvent, which is equal to 9.90%. Toxicity test results showed that the LC50 values for each solvent extract of N�hexane, Ethyl Acetate, and Methanol were 171.77 ppm, 147.67 ppm and 70.19 ppm respectively. The results of the identification of compounds by the GCMS method from N-hexane solvents with compounds 9-Octadecenoic acid-,Oleic acid, Oelsauere. Ethyl solvent with 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, mono(2-ethylhexyl) ester compound. Methanol solvent is present with the compound Mome Inositol.
