Abstract

The study aims to evaluate growth and production of several F2 accessions of chili plants resulted from the cross of curly and cayenne pepper and to produce seeds of selected plants for further research.. This research was conducted from July to December 2022 in farm area at Permata Baru Village, Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. The utilized three accessions namely, CK Tanjung-2 (6) x CR Sakti (2), CK Tanjung-2 (5) x CR Sakti (8), CK Lembang 1 (7) x CR Jutex (7) and CK Wire (4) x CR Genie (3). Data analysis was carried out descriptively through pictures, graphs and photos and using the Analysis of Varience (ANOVA) method. The results of this study indicated those accessions, in general, showed variation in growth and production characters. Based on plants height and fruit number, CK Lembang 1 (7).CR Jutex (7) accession had the highest plant of 22.27 cm with 5.7 fruit per plant. This accession also developed flower and fruit earlier than others. Based on weight and length of the fruit CK Lembang 1 (7).CR Jutex (7) also had the highest weight and length of the fruit of 6.34 gram per plant and w 4.17 cm. Based on fruit diameter, however, CK Kawat (4) x CR Genie (3) accession showed the highest of 7.5 mm. Selection based on fruit position that face upward resulted in several in plant numbers. For CK Tanjung-2 x CR Sakti accession, the selected plants were as follows: Block1-No. 10, Block2-no.2 and Block3-no.6. For CK Lembang 1 (7) x CR Jutex (7) accession the selected plants were as follows: Block1-no.1 and block3- no.1, block2-no.1 and 6. For CK Kawat (4) x CR Genie (3) accession the selected plants were as follows: block1-no.2 and 4, block-3 no. 4. The seeds of all these selected plants available for further research were about 90 seed per plant Keywords : Growth, production, F2-generation, curly, cayenne, chili.
