Abstract
Until now, studies discussing the potential of Indonesian coal for UCG development are still very limited. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out an initial evaluation of the potential of UCG. The evaluation was carried out in areas with subsurface coal potential (100-500 meters) in the Muara Tiga Besar area in the PT. Tamarind Hill. Evaluation activities focus on the characterization of coal in the area and do not cover the currently developing UCG technology and its possible application at PT. Tamarind Hill. Several coal samples from the Muara Tiga Besar area were collected for laboratory analysis. The average proximate analysis of several seams in Muara Tiga Besar coal contains 15.8% Inherent Moisture (IM), 3.8% ash content (Ash), 38.2% Fixed Carbon (FC), 0.3% Total Sulfur (TS), Calorific Value (CV) ) 5711.0 cal/g or 12972.4 Btu/lb, so it is included in the High-volatile C Bituminous Coal category based on ASTM standards (ASTM D388-05, 1996). Based on the results of resource estimation in the research area using the USGS circular method, a total calculation of 4 coal seams was obtained, with a known measured resource of 29.2 million tons, an indicated resource of 41.4 million tons and an inferred resource of 62.9 million tons. After evaluating the potential for subsurface coal gasification in the three major estuary areas. The area has the potential to carry out UCG in 4 coal seams namely coal seam A1, coal seam A2, coal seam B and coal seam C1.
