Abstract

Issues regarding the environment have become increasingly in the spotlight, especially since there has been development that does not lead to green growth. Therefore, it is necessary to have an institution that drives this concept. This study aims to analyze the role of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in realizing green economic growth in Indonesia during the 2016-2020 period. The research method used is descriptive analysis based on data and information obtained from various related sources. The research results show that GGGI has three main roles in supporting the Indonesian government in realizing green growth. First, GGGI acts as an instrument that facilitates the preparation of green growth strategies. One example is through the Berau Forest Carbon Program (PKHB), which is a carbon financing mechanism in development to reduce emissions and bridge the gap between small emission reduction projects and the national REDD+ program. Second, GGGI acts as an arena that facilitates discussion and collaboration between stakeholders regarding green economic growth. This can be seen from GGGI's participation in the Climate Sustainability Working Group (CSWG) which is a discussion forum under the coordination of the Directorate General of Climate Change Control of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. In addition, GGGI also together with the Indonesian government organized meeting events such as Low Carbon Development and Green Economy in Bali, which involved various strategic partners such as ICCTF, Directorate of Environment of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, UK Climate Change Unit (UKCCU), New Climate Economy (NCE). ), and the World Resource Institute (WRI). Third, GGGI acts as an independent actor that increases knowledge and capacity related to green growth. GGGI provides training to civil servants to increase their understanding and application of the concept of green growth. In addition, GGGI also works closely with the State Administration Agency (LAN) and other institutions to build internal capacity and implement training programs.
