Abstract

Study is that it aims to analyze organizational communication patterns at the East Pedamaran Sector Police Office, South Sumatra, in dealing with drug cases. In dealing with complex drug problems, it is important for police organizations to have effective and efficient communication patterns. The research method of the study is a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis as data sources. Respondents in this study were members of the police, related officials, and local communities who were involved in dealing with drug cases in the area. The results of this study indicate that the pattern of organizational communication at East Pedamaran Polres tends to lead to a firm and formal hierarchy. Information about drug cases usually flows from top to bottom, with little opportunity for active participation from subordinates. This can hamper a quick response to the changing situation that often occurs in drug handling. In addition, it was found that communication units at the police station are not optimal. Coordination between investigative teams, patrols, and intelligence units needs to be improved so that information related to drug cases can be exchanged more smoothly and quickly. Recommendation to improve the organizational communication pattern at the East Sector Police Office, including the more efficient introduction of an internal communication system, a more open and participatory approach to communication, and training for police officers in interpersonal and team communication skills.
