Abstract

Coal mining activities at PT. Bukit Asam, Tbk uses surface mining system methods and conventional and continuous mining equipment. Open coal mining is strongly influenced by water making slope conditions saturated, where water can have an impact on mining operational activities. High rainfall during the rainy season can affect or hamper ongoing mining operations. The results of observations in the field, Muara Tiga Besar Utara is one of the MTB areas used as a transportation route for hauling vehicles from the front pit of Muara Tiga Besar Utara and there is disposal by the inpit dump method so that it is necessary to maintain the heap slope in the area so as not to cause avalanches due to water. On this basis, an optimal handling effort is needed in dealing with water problems on the slope by conducting a vertical drain implementation study. Based on the results of the study, a consolidation time of 90% was obtained in 6 weeks with prefabricated vertical drain and consolidation time with 90% took 15 years without prefabricated vertical drain. Installation of prefabricated vertical drain in MTBU inpit dump pile in section A-A' with Hinisial 21 meters and Hfinal of 20 meters analysis based on FK recommendations for north side overall slope from elevation -39 to elevation -60 with H = 21 m, bench width = 40 m, slope slope 6.2o, obtained FK = 1.578 (stable) so that the heap slope and landfill base area become solid well consolidated.
